placecups: a personal touch

i love, love to entertain. it is such a joy to fill our home with amazing friends, good food and a dapper looking table. i just can't get enough of the build up and preparations before a dinner party or sunday brunch. this is when i am truly in my element. recently we hosted a few good peeps and i needed a fun project for the day. my metallic sharpies had been burning a hole in our junk drawer since this... so what better way to get my diy on than with a few new place"cups" for our guests!

i made a trip to the thrift store and managed to scrounge up some plain white coffee cups for the project. after a good cleaning, they were all ready for their beautification. i simply picked some fonts off of my computer and used the gold metallic sharpie to hand draw the monograms for my lovely guests. if i happened to draw a little less than perfect, i honestly just scratched the mess off with my finger nail. this seemed to do the trick. i have heard that rubbing alcohol works too. after the monogrammed mugs are dazzled in gold, simply bake them in the oven for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. after the thirty minutes, turn the oven off and leave the coffee cups in the oven until cool.

the mugs were a hit, and this technique can be used on any ceramic surface that can handle the heat from the oven. happy diy'ing!!
